Magellan and DUOS Launch Program to Support Behavioral Health of Older Adults

Magellan Healthcare has rolled out a program to help provide behavioral wellness resources to older adults dealing with a number of social determinants of health.

Magellan Healthcare is administering the program with DUOS, a virtual platform that provides users with care coordination resources like transportation and medical appointments, as well as locating licensed in-home providers and in-network physicians.

The program operated by the Magellan-DUOS partnership will extend care coordination to help users manage social isolation, healthcare access and behavioral health needs, while also allowing them to maintain a level of independence.

Magellan Behavioral Health recently launched a pilot of the program in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. With the pilot, users were connected with county resources as well as referrals through Magellan for community resources like behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment services.

Magellan Health said that members who were enrolled in the program received a 97% success rate with regard to their support services requests.

“By working with DUOS, we are enhancing our behavioral health offerings while addressing the health and wellness needs for our members in Northampton County,” Jim Leonard, the CEO of Magellan Behavioral Health of Pennsylvania, said in a press release. “As we focus on the social determinants of aging, it’s a crucial opportunity for us to meet members where they are in their healthcare journey and help them achieve a healthy, vibrant life.”

Headquartered in New York, DUOS raised $6.1 million in a February seed round that was led by Redesign Health and Forerunner Ventures.
